How to Replace an audi car key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins, and they perform different functions but the best way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When i crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stay closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The replacement car key audi will start if the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is easy to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.

Some of the symptoms of a failing G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal, and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is going bad and needs replacing. The good news is that they are very cheap and easily accessible particularly when you're looking at the Bosch unit which is what ours are. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous issues with your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your audi a3 key since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the engine is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

BMW-2020-New.pngThe G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is the same across the audi key fob not working - king-wifi.win, 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.
